Every blog has to begin somewhere so lets start at the beginning. What the heck is Fi? Well simply put, it means financial independence. It is that point in your life where you have invested enough money that you don’t have to work a 9-5 job anymore. In other words, if you are working a job you don’t like, you have the freedom to choose a job you do like? How many people do you know that are a slave to their paycheck? How often do you hear people say I can’t wait until I’m 65 so I can retire. With Fi you could decide to not work at all. With Fi you don’t have to wait until the most youthful years of your life are behind you. It is that freedom to choose your destiny that is so appealing about the concept of Fi.
At it’s most extreme, Fi is about cutting your spending to the bone and investing as much of your earnings as you possible. I hear podcasts where people are saving 50-75% of their income. I’m here to tell you that will probably never be me. But I can easily save 20% and you can too. I have had a goal for the past two years to get to investing 40% of net income. I’m sad to say, I have not gotten there. There is always 2018. .
I am 40 years old and well on my way to Fi. I wish I would have started this blog years ago so you could see how many mistakes I have made along the way. But this blog is about putting those mistakes behind you and moving forward. Because mistakes are just good learning experiences. So welcome, and thank you for stopping by my little slice of the internet.
